Change a Volunteer's Permissions

Adjust permissions of Volunteers within your organization.

A volunteer’s permission level determines what the volunteer can see and do within your organization. Each volunteer can only have one permission level assigned at a time. For more information about specific permission levels, read What are the different Organization permissions?

Only volunteers with the Organization Manager permission level can modify permission levels for other volunteers. As an Organization Manager, you can adjust Volunteer permissions to allow members of your organization to do more with Bloomerang Volunteer, such as viewing data from past opportunities, creating new opportunities, and more.

Note: Organization Manager is the highest possible permission level within the organization. Ensure that you fully trust a volunteer before granting them Organization Manager permission.

To modify a volunteer’s permission levels:

  1. Navigate to your organization in Bloomerang Volunteer.
  2. Click Volunteers to view the list of volunteers in the organization.
  3. Click the volunteer’s name in the list to view their profile.
  4. Click Permissions to view the volunteer’s permission settings.
The permissions page for a volunteer, showing that they currently have Basic Volunteer permissions.
  5. Click the switch next to the desired permission level to turn it On.
  6. (Optional) Turn on any additional permission settings.
    1. Under the Opportunity Manager permission level, you can enable View Historic Data to allow the Opportunity Manager to view reports and copy data from other Opportunities in the Organization.

    2. Under the Organization Manager permission level, you can enable the Read Only options to further control what the Organization Manager can see and do in your organization.
Tip: The Read Only setting also blocks the Organization Manager from accessing opportunities on the Bloomerang Volunteer mobile app.

      1. The first sub-option, Allow Manager to Export any data & reports from the system, is useful for people who are responsible for running reports, but not for changing any of the organization’s data.
      2. The second sub-option, Allow Manager to send messages & Broadcasts from the system, is useful for people who are responsible for communications, but not for changing any of the organization’s data.
  7. Click Done. If this is the first time that the person has been granted Organization Manager permissions, Bloomerang Volunteer automatically sends an email to the person to notify them that their permissions have changed.

Tip: Review your volunteers’ permission levels regularly. Ensure that all permissions are up-to-date, and revoke higher permission levels when those permissions are no longer required.
