Self Check-In and Check-Out on the Attendance Kiosk

Use the Attendance Kiosk to make it easy for volunteers to check in and out.

The Attendance Kiosk is a browser-based application that you open on a computer or tablet. Place the Kiosk in a designated check-in area at your event or site. For example, at events, require volunteers to stop at a special check-in station before they enter the event. For ongoing programs, use the Kiosk as an onsite check-in station.

When you use the Kiosk, volunteers can check themselves in and out of shifts and opportunities, and they don't need to download the mobile app on their personal device.

If you don't have a designated check-in area at your event or site, volunteers can use the Bloomerang Volunteer mobile app instead.

Tip: Onsite managers can also use the Kiosk to quickly check volunteers in and out. Managers only have to enter the volunteer's email address to see check-in and check-out options for the volunteer.

Check-In and Check-Out Permissions

To allow volunteers to check themselves in and out of shifts, you must enable the Self Check-in/out permission in the Shift Attendance settings.

To allow volunteers to check themselves in and out of opportunities, you must enable the Self Check-in/out permission in the General Attendance settings.

Read more about these permissions.

Self Check-In

When volunteers approach the Kiosk, they see a login page.

Volunteers enter their email and click or tap Log In. Volunteers don't enter a password to log in to the Kiosk, which means they can log in quickly.

After logging in, volunteers see one of the following:

  • Shifts — If you enable Shift Check-In, volunteers see only the shifts they're scheduled for that day. If no shifts appear, the volunteer isn't scheduled. You must add the volunteer to the shift or the volunteer must sign up to the shift to check in.
  • Opportunity — If you enable General Check-in, volunteers see the opportunity name instead of shifts. The opportunity appears only if the volunteer signs in to the kiosk on or between the opportunity’s Start Date and End Date.

Volunteers select Check-in. A confirmation page asks volunteers to confirm they meant to check in. Finally, volunteers see a message that the action was successful, and they are automatically logged out.

Automatic logout makes sure that volunteers only take action on their own account and don't see personal information about others.

Self Check-Out

At the end of the shift or day, volunteers go back to the Kiosk and log in again. They see the shift or opportunity they are currently logged in to, with an option to check out.
